Pallet Rack

Pallet Rack Storage systems are generally used for item storage that is either heavy or in large containers. The primary principle behind any pallet rack system is the utilization of ceiling height within your facility sometimes referred to as floor to rafters. Most pallet rack requires the use of a fork lift or some other type of man lift to gain access to stored items. Due to the somewhat slow throughput of this storage system a user needs to consider activity level of products prior to implementing this storage option. When it comes to storing heavy or bulky items, pallet rack it tough to beat! Most people are familiar with the standard pallet rack as seen at Home Depot or Cosco, but there are many other types with different applications:

Selective Pallet Rack

This type of pallet rack system is the most commonly identified type of pallet system. The rack design provides 100% access to the pallet required. Based upon the concept of total accessibility, this type of rack system provides the least amount of storage density per square foot of floor space. This type of system is often used for a high number of SKU’s, and a lower number of similar pallets. This system is commonly used in FIFO (First In First Out) situations.

Wire Deck Option

Other items that should be considered when developing your pallet rack solution. Wire decking is a common accessory. It provides a safety barrier for smaller pallets or loaders who have trouble getting items on the front and back beams. Wire decks allow light to flow through, which is not possible with wood decks. Wire decks allow better water coverage should a fire occur.

Barriers

Driving a fork lift with a fully loaded pallet can be a challenging operation and accidents do happen. You might want to consider protecting the pallet rack uprights, electrical equipment or other sensitive items with steel barriers.
